SHUT MED researchers meet the community: ECPR SG-EU and Italian SG-IR

The week between 17th and 21st July 2024 has been an intense conference week for the PI and the vice PI of Shut Med, has engaged and debated their researches in migration and border governance with the extended community of international scholars!

Prof. Eugenio Cusumano is attending the 12th Biennial Conference of the ECPR Standing Group on the European Union at the Universidade NOVA, Lisbon, Portugal, and Dr. Luca Raineri will attend the 2024 conference of the Standing Group of International Relations of the Italian Political Science Association, at the University of Parma, Italy.

At the SGEU Biennal Conference of the ECPR, Eugenio Cusumano has presented the paper "Externalized migration governance as isomorphic convergence: the mobility of human mobility governance across EUrope", in the panel Bilateral Migration Diplomacy in times of crisis, chaired by Sarah Wolff (Queen Mary, University of London), discussant Helena Carrapico (Northumbria University). He will also join the roundtable "The challenge of migration governance: Italy in the multi-level system of the EU", chaired by Edoardo Bressanelli (Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna), discussant Igor Guardiancich (Department of Political Science, Law, and International Studies, University of Padova), delivering and discussion migration governance together with Michela Ceccorulli (University of Bologna), and Stefania Panebianco (University of Catania).

At the 2024 conference of the Italian Standing Group of International Relations, Luca Raineri has chaired and discussed the panel "The Policing of International Mobility: between Border Security and Logistics", organized together with Georgios Glouftsios (University of Trento), hosting paper presentations by Alizée Dauchy (University of Trento), Beste İşleyen (University of Amsterdam), Cristina Dallara (University of Bologna), and Georgios Glouftsios (University of Trento). He has also presented the paper coauthored with Edoardo Baldaro (University of Palermo) titled "De/constructive ambiguity? Italy’s engagement in the Sahel and the geopolitical imaginary of “extended Mediterranean”, in the panel “(Re-)defining, defying, or contesting conflict management and resolution: exploring emerging trends in a changing international security landscape”, chaired by Irene Costantini (University of Naples ‘L’Orientale’) and Baldaro hismelf, discussant Ruth Hanau Santini (University of Naples “L’Orientale”).
