Interview with prof. Cusumano on migratory routes

Interview to prof. Eugenio Cusumano on Panorama, an Italian news magazine, 18 March 2024.

"The new migratory routes lead to the Canary Islands, for hunger and fighting Spain". By Linda di Benedetto. In Italian

Migration flows towards Europe are undergoing significant transformations, as latest Frontex report claims. In the first two months of 2024, while around 6,000 migrants arrived in Italy, as many as 12,000 reached the Canary Islands. These surprising numbers indicate a shift in migratory paths, with the central Mediterranean route suddenly emptied, recording as we wrote in previous articles a drop in Italy of 70% compared to the previous year.
A trend that does not at all indicate a slowdown in migration towards Europe; Arrivals remain at similar levels to last year, but what has changed are the routes, with more and more migrants making the dangerous route from the coasts of Senegal and Mauritania to the Canary Islands.
